I had the very unique and delightful privilege of working with one of the most respected (if not THE most respected) newspaper designer in the entire world when I joined the Silicon Valley Business Journal. Mario Garcia has been tasked with redesigning the products of The Wall Street Journal, The Miami Herald, El Tiempo (Colombia) and many other print publications over the years and most recently was tapped by the American City Business Journals to lead our company’s redesign (starting in Silicon Valley).
This morning, Mario wrote a blog about our latest social engagement initiative “Hack Our Cover.” I am certain I speak for everyone at the SVBJ when I say that any love from Mario is humbling and awesome.
Worth noting: After we began the promotion, our lead designer Ryan Lambert’s grandmother heard about it and thought that we were making fun of her beloved grandson. Had Ryan not graciously intercepted her fury, I was looking at a heated email from an Italian woman. Bullet, dodged.
To be clear: When I am quoted in the blog as saying I pitched the idea to another media company and they passed, I am not referring to the Record-Journal (where I was working at the time).
